Did you know that ESPN Sports Center is a top rated sports show? Yet, they are laying off hundreds of employees. Why? It's cheaper and more efficient to put everything on a digital platform. The worldwide news giant, Associated Press, now has robots writing the stories you're reading, eliminating thousands of jobs for "stringers". Verizon just lost subscribers for the first time in years. Why? The technology emerging is outstripping their business model. People can make calls through What'sApp and other tools. From travel agents to retail store employees to the automobile industry, the "great technological leap forward" is in motion. Artificial Intelligence has taken a dramatic step in it's ability to think, making it more cost effective for employers to get a non-complaining, no vacation, faster more efficient robot to do the work. We here at LEAD Global have been talking about this for a number of years. What makes 2017 a watershed year is the speed of the implementation of the technology throughout industries. Here are five more industries that will see levels of disruption over the next year or so.... The Automobile Industry. --- Autonomous cars will put more people on notice because they will be visible examples of the change. At this writing, 5 million jobs are at risk by 2020-2021 because of the rippling effect these trucks and cars will have on employment. Financial Services --- More and more people are getting their financial services online. Yes, there will probably always be the woman you can call to get some insight and advice, but the legions of advisers that used to represent a company are dissappearing. Telecommunications --- If you're a Verizon customer, don't be surprised to see them do more outreach to you through more offers and cheaper rates. All of the tele industries will have to do that, just to keep up. They won't be able to, which will produce industry-wide layoffs. Retail --- As we mentioned in the last briefing, the retail world will continue to transition. No one quite knows what the end model will look like. It could be in perpetual movement for years into the future as long as technology continues to evolve. One this is clear...there will be job loss. Education --- Projections show the e-learning market worldwide is forecast to surpass $243 billion U.S.Technology and e-learning are used to personalize education while making it more accessible and affordable for students. You don't need as many people to provide this if students can get it themselves online. These changes don't mean some new jobs won't be created. It just means the traditional models that we've created the current economy on are transforming and challenging the very concept of mass employment for the society. This also means the opportunity to create a new direction for society and the world is also right at our fingertips. I wrote a book about these changes so that we understood this shift is not just a technical one, but one that pushing a change in how we see humanity. Here is the introduction of that book...Above and Beyond All That We Know: How to thrive and succeed in the current word paradigm shift. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6BqRVCeOW4 Like to see the rest? We'll provide you with the complete audio book, free, for all LEAD Global members. Write to Kimberly@leadtheshift.com and ask for the book. Yes! Chet

I heard some industry "insiders" say that the mass closing of retail stores around the US is merely a market correcting itself from over supply. In an ordinary economic cycle (whatever that is) you may be able to make that argument stick. Let me share with you what the longer term trends say. And like all things during the Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift, there are amazing opportunities right in the middle of this to create something new, abundant and empowering.

It was basically a book about how unforeseen events and circumstances can change the trajectory of a society or of the world. These unforeseen circumstances are called "black swans" because they are unexpected. As a futurist, my job is to look for these events so that I can make projections of how your life will be impacted by these developments. Based on the collective data to date, here are factors developing in many countries: 1. There is an ongoing concentration of wealth in the hands of a few people.. 2. There will be massive job loss around the world due to technological advances. 3. Climate change is negatively affecting the environment. 4. Human rights are being challenged. By most people's standards, these are not good developments. These are trends. Trends are collective decisions. And like most decisions, we can change our minds, including how we react to climate change. Here are five black swans that I believe could change the current world trajectory. A major weather/climate catastrophe. This one is a fairly easy call because of the obvious effects of climate change that have become more pronounced over the last few years. If it does happen, it could be the wake-up call to force governments to become more pro-active. The chance that this challenge could manifest over the next few years: 50% http://listverse.com/2015/05/25/10-major-natural-disasters-predicted-in-the-near-future/ The discovery of a planet that can sustain human life or already has life. Not to long ago, "experts" told us that it would be a fantastic stroke of luck that we'd discover life outside of the earth. Now it seems every week scientists discover a new planet that can sustain life as we know it. This could change everything we know and understand about our existence and change the way we treat each other and the planet. The chance that we could make this discovery in the next few years: 10% A major political meltdown in the United States. What happens in the US directly affects the rest of the world, so recent develops are deeply concerning. Not since the Business Plot of 1932 has there been this much anxiety on the direction of this country. This happening could push newer forms of government to the fore. The chance that we could experience a meltdown in the US over the next few years...20% A collective action around the world that would signal a new direction. Yes, there is a global consciousness shift happening in the world. It appears that the events of late are pushing this movement along. The shift isn't hyperbole or great story telling. Something is happening. Bad governance, climate change and wealth inequality are the primary drivers. The chance that we could experience this change in the next few years...30% http://www.davidsuzuki.org/blogs/science-matters/2015/07/is-the-climate-crisis-creating-a-global-con... A world economic collapse. Every financial "guru" this side of the Mississippi has been predicting a financial collapse for years. Unfortunately, fear sells. I say ignore these "merchants of mayhem" and check in with your intuition. What do you see is happening around you? Recently, there have been a number of articles about the rich and well to do building doomsday bunkers. Consider this an intuitive tip. Should something happen, other economic systems are waiting in the wing. The chances of this occurring over the next few years...30% LEAD Global Community ![]() A colleague of mine in Nepal has a great portable recycling machine for Katmandu. Yes, Chet chet@chetsisk.com The great challenge that exists inside the Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift is to make sure it is not an extension of the old world. The old world for the past few centuries has been a basic clinic in the application of racism and other biases. The basic promise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution/ World Shift is that the continually emerging technology and expanded thinking of possibilities presents an opportunity to create a more egalitarian, shared and abundant world. That knife with the technology cuts both ways. It can also create these challenges....
AI is reflecting the biases and racism that we program into it...https://thenextweb.com/artificial-intelligence/2017/03/22/artificial-intelligence-is-quickly-becomin... The economic inequality could greatly increase in the coming few years because of automation. That will disproportionately affect communities of color and other vulnerable populations....https://thewire.in/109662/inequality-technology-robotic-age/ As we continue to rely on the internet for our lives ahead, we'll have to deal with the racism baked in....http://www.businessinsider.com/internet-racism-2012-5 What can be done? Here are some suggestions that can help. 1. Developer and programmer teams must be more than diverse in skin color, but diverse in culture, socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences. Different experiences allows teams to look through different lens that can provide a more diverse perspective. Uniform groups has the tendency to breed conformity of ideas and stereotypes. 2. The Fourth Industrial Revolution should stimulate the growth of society. I'm not talking about growth in the traditional economic sense, but growth through the development of the people. Training, volunteering, the arts and empowerment classes should now be part of the way forward. This means all members of a society are gifted with a sense of agency in the world. 3. Champion innovation with people from un-traditional backgrounds. Partnerships that cross cultural, geographic, and political lines to leverage the broadest possible solution to the transformation of society. Our world is more connected now than at any known time in human history. Our wisdom and leadership should reflect that 21st century truth. 4. Purpose to leverage technology to cross the digital divide. I have worked with companies whose first questions were "how do we weaponize this new technology" or "how can we make money from it?". We may want to start advancing the conversation by asking "how do we help create an environment where more people can be empowered?" Starting with that question could help us cross the digital divide and a more prosperous population. We can get in front of the dangers of this time of change, but it will take an intention on our part. LEAD GLOBAL COMMUNITY
Yes, Chet Current Chicago Mayor Rohm Emmauel in the United States made a statement a few years ago that lives on in the memories of many. He said: "Never let a good crisis go to waste". While some would interpret his statement in a cryptic way, there is sunlight in these words as well. Crisis is often deemed negative, but I would submit that crisis also means opportunity. There are many crises happening around the world: the leadership challenge in the United States, the economic implosion in Brazil, the war in Syria and it's humanitarian toll, the global warming developments around the world, etc. While these developments are indeed crises, they present all of us with an opportunity to rethink our next steps. We at LEAD Global have been proponents of the idea that this current nexus of crises, advancing technology and human awareness is unique in the history of the world. There is an opportunity to do something different, brave and profound so that we can actually create the environment we want. This may sound like hyperbole, but history has shown us that fortune favors the bold. If we see the current world situation as unsustainable, there are now technologies that exist that could help create something else. The tools are there. It's now time for the vision. Here are some bold developments some are taking.... TRANSFORMATIVE FARMING The growing alternative to the current unsustainable farming model in the world includes LED, Vertical and Aquaphonic farming that can be set up pretty much anywhere. Even more, these new farms can use 95% less water and NO pesticides. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_tvJtUHnmU What would happen if we transformed the failing malls around the country into these farms? 3D PRINTED AFFORDABLE HOMES Affordable housing is a challenge around the world. There are so many fixes to this challenge that are springing up because of the current technology that they are too numerous to mention in this report. I will provide an example of a Russian company that is mastering 3D Printed homes. Click this link...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUdnrtnjT5Q What could happen if communities banded together to employ a company like this to build these homes? THE CONTINUED GROWTH OF SOCIAL ENTERPRISE I am one to believe that Social Enterprise/Entrepreneurship is transforming. My prediction is that we'll start to see more models that incorporate collective-based and free market elements at the same time. Nevertheless, the idea of business being created for the greater good is extremely popular around the world......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ecKK3S8DOE In a sense, all businesses should be Social Enterprise. If the base they make money from falters, they will be out of business. Thus, the business community could actually lead in the development of a transformed society. THE TECHNOLOGY LEAP OF EMERGING COUNTRIES Because mobility is the key to modern technology, emerging countries simply don't have the infrastructure and bureaucratic hurdles to go through. This gives them a technological implementation advantage. This interesting development happening in Kenya is a perfect example....http://afritorial.com/m-pepea/ It may be prudent to create partnerships with friends in emerging countries to develop mobile technology and mobile technology systems. THE GROWTH OF THE RESTORATIVE JUSTICE MOVEMENT Punitive Justice Systems have come under fire because, as they are designed, they are inequitable. Models of Restorative Justice Systems are springing up around the world. Even more, the numbers show that punitive justice systems are simply not cost effective to taxpayers, but an economic boon for private prison corporations. Here is some information that speaks of the difference between the two systems...http://www.cscsb.org/restorative_justice/retribution_vs_restoration.html What could a Restorative Justice System do for the collective healing of a society? What could it do for cost effectiveness? Chet Almost everything in our current world is based around a petroleum energy-based infrastructure. You can imagine that when more and more reports keep coming in on the technological efficiency of solar panels, a lot of people get concerned. And rightfully so. Our dependence on petroleum has made most Western countries borders on addiction to this energy source. This too will add to some of the uncertainty of the next few years. But while we're looking at the uncertainty, we should also look at the great promise this development provides. Here are some reports to consider.
