Each day, I go through about 3 hours of data and more time with Google Analytics just to get a basic idea of what trends are driving our societies around the world. Let me give you some interesting ones I discovered this week, along with a conversation about the Fight for Fifteen issue. But before we do that, I want to remind you to register for a wonderful gathering coming up on February 25th here in the Denver area in the US. Myself and meditation teacher David Stevens will be there to help you gather the tools you'll need to succeed in this new world emerging. A reminder that if you're looking for help to think through your business plan, your career goals, your social justice idea, your vision for the future, the LEAD Global team will provide free direct consultation for 30 days for those that attend this gathering. You can sign up during registration or come to the event and sign up there. We look directly through the eyes of the trends reshaping everything in leadership, employment, technology and belief. You have to come to the event to be eligible.
WHAT ABOUT THE FIGHT FOR 15?
Should we 'Fight for $15' in the day of automation? I am one to believe that a country is only as strong as it's most vulnerable people. A civil society is one that empowers every person to take care of their family. The challenge that we face with Fight for $15 is that the terrain is changing so rapidly, the conversation must become bigger. Being in a silo around minimum wage is dangerously naive in a time of The Fourth Industrial Revolution. My personal observation is that the Fight for Fifteen (the campaign to raise the minimum wage in the United States to $15 per hour) must transform into the fight for a remedy to income inequality. It's too small of a conversation right now in the face of the current world shift. There are remedies and technology, but it's going to take bigger visionary thinking to get there, and get there quickly. Here is an article that outlines some of the moving parts. http://www.inquisitr.com/3763343/the-fight-for-15-automated-kiosks-and-the-fourth-industrial-revolut...
Other trend news.....
The Trump administration and the current world shift.
The new Trump administration in the United States partly won the election because of it's emphasis on bringing manufacturing jobs back to the US. Anyone with a surface understanding of how the terrain is changing sees problems with that promise. The current administration may not have a clue of how the Fourth Industrial Revolution/World Shift is changing everything. . https://www.thequint.com/blogs/2016/12/22/donald-trump-united-states-president-elect-clumsy-war-on-g...
Say goodbye to big retail shops and malls.
Online retails sales are moving so fast, traditional retailers can't seem to keep up, which means there is room for others to cover the space. Those giant malls that were the darling of developers and a staple of the suburbs during the 1970s are quickly becoming unprofitable. I saw a report that says investors are simply walking away from these malls. But what if neighborhood groups decided to turn these giant spaces into LED vertical farms? Or what about Maker Districts? Just a thought. https://www.thebalance.com/all-us-store-closings-2891888
The potential of Smart Clothes.
Smart clothes...wearable items that can monitor your body vital statistics and send that information to you or anyone else in real time, is revolutionizing health care. Smart clothes tend to lean on the side of preventative health care. Many current elements of health care models are based on the old model of treating the symptoms instead of preventing them in the first place. Smart clothes are driving the conversation to prevention and change the health care business model altogether. http://www.businessinsider.com/smart-workout-clothes-are-the-next-big-trend-2015-9
Sankofa: Recovering that which was lost.
UNESCO started a project a few years ago to recover indigenous wisdom as a way to help humanity navigate the future. http://www.unesco.org/education/tlsf/mods/theme_c/mod11.html They have been joined by a number of organizations around the world. From Native American to classic Celtic to traditional African to foundational Asian...there is great work being done to recover the solutions these cultures have to problems that seem to perplex our modern lives. My belief is that the first step in this process is reducing the power and influence of "guys in suits".
